Upgrading from Character Tool 2

Before starting the upgrade, follow the instructions in the file “CHARACTER TOOL UPGRADE INSTRUCTIONS”. After launching 3.1.0 select Edit>Upgrade Alternatives>Upgrade from Character Tool 2.2.0, and follow the instructions.

1. Upgrade file structure and license
Before starting the upgrade, follow the instructions in the file “CHARACTER TOOL UPGRADE INSTRUCTIONS”. After launching 3.1.0 select Edit>Upgrade Alternatives>Upgrade from Character Tool 3.0.0, and follow the instructions.

2. Upgrade file structure and license
Before any upgrades can be performed from Character Tool 2, the file structure must be upgraded followed by an upgrade of the license.

Read the Character Tool upgrade instructions provided under this section in detail before proceeding.

These two steps are required before the below steps may be performed.

3. Upgrade user core data
Core data is armour, spells, weapons, rituals and skills.

Original core data such as Armour data, Spells etc. is more or less the same as in Character Tool 2 with improvements, error corrections and some additions.

Any changes to Original core data in Character Tool 2 will not be carried into Character Tool 3.

The reason is that there are a number of dependencies that are difficult to verify - it is recommended that changes are done to the Original data under settings if deemed necessary.

Read the Character Tool upgrade instructions provided under this section in detail before proceeding.

4. Upgrade character data
Character Tool 2 characters needs to be upgraded to the Character Tool 3 format. All information will be imported with the more important exceptions listed below:

The field Affiliation will not be used any longer. Instead each character that has an affiliation will be added to a group with the same affiliation name as before. Please see the Groups view after import.
  1. Armour and weapons may need to be checked due to differences in spelling of weapon names and armours. Please verify these sections and also that there are corresponding settings available (see Settings for Armour and Weapons).
  2. Skillbase definitions may differ. Please verify these - by reentering the skill names for skills suspected to have problems, the definitions for SB etc will re-updated.
  3. Equipment - there is now an equipment list available with costs and weights. These may differ from the values you have used.
  4. Equipment is now differentiated between written works, esoterica, Gems and Jewelry and other equipment. These needs to be moved to correct heading manually.
  5. Funds are now listed in more detail. Please correct if needed.
Since there are as many different ways to use Character Tool 2 as there are users, it is impossible to take into account every variant. It is recommended that all characters are checked for inconsistencies before using Character Tool 3.
